The developers of Escape From Tarkov, BattleState Games, is giving players 1 million in-game roubles as an apology for server issues. The team wasn’t prepared for boost in the player base and as a result, the servers were overwhelmed by the significant community of the game. The developers also hosted a Twitch event which allowed viewers to receive free drops for watching streams of people who were playing Escape From Tarkov and participating in the event. The indie, story-driven MMO FPS is available exclusively for PC and Mac now.

Fans of Escape From Tarkov can locate their 1 million in-game rouble gift from BattleState Games in a letter with compensation, which is stored in the game mail for 48 hours from the moment they log in to the game. While offering the in-game rewards, the developers took to Twitter to say, “we want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to improve the server situation, although it is not always up to us to fix it. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.” Although many players are frustrated by the server instability, BattleState Games is doing a good job in compensating their fan base during the programming struggle.

Some Tarkov players have accepted the gift warmly, while others question whether it's enough. Players who disconnect from Escape From Tarkov mid-raid and aren't able to re-connect risk losing all of their loot, including gear they brought into the session with them--even if the disconnection was due to uncontrollable factors like server instability. The appeal of Tarkov comes from its high-risk, high-reward gameplay, but a bad connection is never a welcome part of any raid. Players are offered the chance to re-connect if they've lagged out of a game, but there's no guarantee it will work or that their gear will be recovered. Battlestate Games assures players it's "working tirelessly to improve the server situation." For newer players, a free 1 million roubles isn't a bad deal.

The trouble stems from the high-stakes nature of Tarkov gameplay. Before entering a gameplay session with their main character, players gear up from their own personal stockpile of weapons and gear. If they die during that session, all their equipment can be looted by other players in the game. Things play out similarly if the game crashes. Even with in-fiction insurance, there’s no guarantee you’ll get your loot back when the game crashes. Finally, to enjoy all the features in the game, players can Buy tarkov roubles from at a reasonable price.
