For those who do not read announcements: http://www.studentsfordemocracy.org/sfd/forum/forum_posts.asp? TID=2909&PN=1&FID=37&PR=3

Whenever you reply to a newsbot post in this forum the entire topic will automatically get moved to the 'Current Events' forum.

From now on, news that have been automatically moved to the 'Current events' forum will not be re-posted to the newsbot forum by the bot.

For those who might be wondering how often the newsbot is going to post here: The trigger was set to 25 posts, meaning that every 25 new posts (including bot posts) the bot will start to work.

It would be much better to be able to start the bot every 60 minutes or so but that would require access to the hosts server, or the right to create cronjobs. Barely any hosting provider is granting such rights so we will have to stick with our trigger.

Edit: Trigger was set to 15 posts now.

The bug that the bot was posting some new topics as replies to other topics *should* be fixed now.

Thank you headrock.

I replied to Bush Donates $10,000 to Tsunami Relief Efforts, then this was moved.

But that newsbot posted it again here.

Doesn't matter, just so you know.

LOL

Seriously: The mod has been 'found' after many hours of work. It is like most other modifications on SfD/S4D our own creation.

But this one will never be available to others. The mod would get (ab)used to boost the number of forum posts most of the times as it can be configured to post several hundred or even thousand of times each hour.

As a forum does not get its importance out of the number of meaningless posts but solely out of the quality of posts I oppose post-whoring as well as 'longest thread ever' topics and all the other methods that are in use on many other forums to manipulate their size.
Also I find all this a pure waste of bandwidth.

I am not at all saying that this would be your intention but to make sure that my modification does only the work it was supposed to do I will not make it public.

Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold -- but so does a hard-boiled egg.

I will add a function that will automatically delete all topics in the newsbot forum that are older than 3 days.

Youre doing the same. And its not your job to tell us what we are supposed to do on our forums. Just let us have that mod and all is good.

No. Older newsbot posts will get deleted.

Of course not. I am only telling you what I am doing with my mod. And that is not to make it public.

All is good anyway. Except for people coming here and telling me what I am supposed to do with my mods.

Can you tell us where we can find your forum so we can all come there and tell you what you can "let us have" ?
